Socks
Socks have always been in existence ever since man’s bare feet felt cold, dirty, and wet. Humans from the time of the ancient Greeks all the way up to the present day have always turned to socks to keep their feet warm, dry, clean, and protected. Socks today are a basic clothing staple in any person’s wardrobe, whether they may be young or old, or man or woman. Socks are also often required as part of a uniform, such as in school, in a sports team, or in business attire. Many people simply cannot leave the house and feel naked without putting on their socks. This humble article of clothing is so simple, that it’s practically ingenious.
Over the great number of years since it was invented, the sock has seen many changes and variations to its plain and unassuming design. Socks primarily began as animal skins worn over the feet and secured around the ankles with a piece of string. Later on, socks were made out of leather skins, soft fabrics, and were even created out of matted animal hair. Knitted socks followed shortly thereafter, but it took a long time to produce one pair as they were only made by hand. The invention of the knitting machine in 1589 made socks much easier and much cheaper to manufacture, thus allowing socks to be produced in bulk and in many different lengths, various fabrics, colorful patterns, and bright colors. These different designs made socks very popular and it eventually became an essential and indispensable article of clothing.
One of the latest fashions to take socks by storm is toe socks. Toe socks are a clever little reworking of the regular design of the original socks. While the originally designed socks are like small bags that you pulled over your feet, toe socks have separate casings for every single one of your ten toes. It’s like your individual toes each have their own sock in toe socks. The way toe socks fit your feet do not differ much from how a hand glove would fit your hands.
Toe socks are not actually a new creation. Toe socks were first introduced almost 40 years ago in the 1970s. However, it wasn’t until this past decade that toe socks became fashionable again.
Toe socks are not only a novelty fashion item, but a functional variation of socks. Toe socks are actually able to keep the feet warmer because of the individual casings for each toe. Toe socks also minimizing sliding around of your feet in your shoes because toe socks hug each of your toes. And with toe socks, you don’t ever have to tuck excess sock fabric under your feet ever again.
The many different designs for toe socks include ankle toe socks, kids’ toe socks, men toe socks, rubber sole toe socks, secret toe socks, classic toe socks, knee-high toe socks, trendy stripe toe socks, printed toe socks, sports toe socks, fuzzy toe socks, wool toe socks, and many more.
